Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy does not require talking in detail about your past traumas. Instead EMDR therapy is designed to allow our brains and bodies to recover through their natural process. When disturbing images from a traumatic event remain in our memories we can become frozen in our stress response. EMDR therapy helps the brain to work through these memories allowing it to then proceed with it’s normal healing process. The memories are not forgotten, but the stress response from the traumatic event is gone.
It’s important that you feel like your therapist is a good fit. You will connect with your therapist so you can determine if they are the therapist for you.
During the consultation, your therapist will give you an overview of their approach to therapy and answer any questions you may have.
